Ottawa Fashion Week A/W 2012 on The Final Day and Oh Yes! It’s My Birthday – S07E27

It was the final day of Ottawa Fashion Week’s Autumn/Winter edition and I did not expect to attend but it was due to some luck and also a fun opportunity to see people again. Afterall, it was great to see the usual photographers at the photo pit and there were a few new joiners to the ruckus and humorous crowd of the photographers. Due to my own bungling, I forgot to get the program guide for Sunday’s OFW event. There were some new designers appearing at OFW from the likes of Loft 604. The Sunday lineup also had Ella Peru, Helmer, & Symbiose by Hinda A.
The highlight of the night was the Runway for a Better Way as it was a charity to support UNICEF Canada. Celebrities from Elizabeth Manley, Lianne Liang, Gabrielle Miller (Corner Gas), singer/actress Cory Lee, social media/blogger Casie Stewart, Erica Wark and etc. The photos are be posted below.
It was nice to have a bit of CKCU-FM connection (aside from Jewne on Fundamentally Sound) at OFW as one of the photographers is on Carleton University’s Journalism program, Midweek. Her is blog is called Always On.

Uh-oh! It’s My Birthday
Being that it’s February 20th and it’s also Family Day in Ontario. That’s right, it’s my birthday today and it’s nice that friends are posting their birthday greetings on my Facebook wall. I would be put in tears to read through them. I know it sounds sentimental.
Another thing to drive me crazy is my iPhone ringing off the hook from the Facebook notifications.
What will I be doing on the special day? Not very much to say the least and being that certain places are closed for Family Day, it will be a relaxing day.
Here’s a photographer friend who took this shot of me at OFW.

Attended Ottawa Fashion Week With a Touch of Mentioning Friends and Sushi – S07E06

After an exciting time in Montreal for Pop Montreal on the previous weekend, I’d never expect to attend another event, in a fashion sense for Ottawa. That’s right, Ottawa Fashion Week was held on September 29 to October 1. For myself, I only attended Friday and part of Saturday’s night event. I had mixed feelings in wanting to attend because I couldn’t get over being in Montreal and Arcade Fire. It was a bit of fatigue setting in. At OFW, I settled being a photographer and I was surrounded by professionals At least, a good friend attended the Fall edition of OFW and we basically had a great time laughing and bringing up jokes. At least I wasn’t intimidated by photographers. It was definitely a blast to have him around and bringing my funny antics at events like this would bring a lot of fun. It was also a privilege to meet the blogger, Thoughts of a Ninja. She was doing the live video stream for OFW and it sure looked like a fun job to video broadcast on the Internet. It was also nice to see Pop ChampagneMay-Jun, Sincerely, Sabrina and countless others at the event.
As for Saturday night, I missed parts of showings as I went to 168 Sushi for a friend’s birthday. The most hilarious part was sneaking out some sushi as with “all you can sushi,” they’ll throw away the leftover if you can’t finish. I promised my photographer friend and a friend (who’s with OFW) that I will save them sushi and I did. It’s definitely a moment for 2011 to remember. I was supposed to record a special podcast but the endless orders sushi’s came in and I didn’t record for the closing part as I gave my friend the Kanpe tea from DAVIDsTEA.
Don’t forget to check the photos below. I tried my best taking them but hopefully you enjoy the photos. I picked a select few as I took so many photos.

Attended Ottawa Fashion Week 2011 and Radio Show – S06E29

If you think Ottawa does not have a fashion scene, think again! It does and this past weekend was no exception as Ottawa Fashion Week rolled on at The National Gallery of Canada. It is my second time to attend the event as I went for one night for the 2010 edition. This time, I brought along my co-host, Lauren to the event. Hopefully we will chat about the event for Wednesday’s radio show on CKCU-FM.
The showing from local designers were pretty good. Pretty stylish and unique. I do forget that the designers are based in Ottawa and some of their designs are very creative and engaging. I’m not considered a fashion expert, I’m trying to enjoy the events happening in Ottawa. Saturday’s event was the most important because there’s been a lot of talk about Rachel Sin, as she’s been doing pretty well in the Ottawa fashion scene.
Oh yes, it was nice to meet some bloggers at the event. Kudos to you. The bloggers I saw around were Pop Champagne, Dernier Cri, The Fashion Keeper, and Your Sweet Bippy.
The funny thing for Saturday’s event was grooving and head-bopping to certain songs. In a way, I got distracted with the music than watching the models on the runway.
Speaking of music, I got to see some of the usual Ottawa musicians perform before the start or during the fashion show. They were Scary Bear Soundtrack, Adam Saikaley (formerly on CBC Radio’s Bandwidth) and May-Jun.
Here are some photos from Friday and Saturday. I don’t have the designer’s names by memory. Hopefully some of the fashion bloggers will know it. I apologize with the image quality because I haven’t used a D-SLR camera in awhile.

Wednesday’s Radio Show – March 23, 2011
I had the opportunity to talk about attending Ottawa Fashion Week in the second hour of WildWorks. It was good to have my co-host, Lauren, join me at the fashion show and experience events in Ottawa. I forgot to mention the name of the designers on the podcast edition. I did mention some of the Ottawa-based designers on the live show. As usual, I was joined Erica and Digory as they provided their small jokes about having to wear “nice” clothing. I gave a shoutout to the bloggers (entry above) whom I saw at OFW. That’s my thanks to you. I should not forget about the songs I played throughout the show, as I am still hooked on The Naked and Famous, Lykke Li and Radiohead.
Also on the radio show, I gave a shoutout to RTHK’s Ellie Davis as she will be interviewing MGMT for Saturday. The band will be performing in Hong Kong on March 30. I am slightly jealous that she will have an opportunity to see the band.
You can listen to the radio show at the bottom of the entry.
