From Animals to an Art Carnival on Sunday – S08E11

It’s been awhile that I have wrote an entry that’s not radio show related as the blog has been updated on a weekly basis. On Sunday, I had an opportunity to attend two events. The first was the Exposure Photo & Imaging Expo at the CE Centre (soon to be called (Ernst & Young Centre). It’s the first time to go to the building after taking a painful hour long bus ride. It was a good expo for Photo enthusiasts and junkies. The major players, Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fujifilm and etc were there showing the current models of cameras and lenses. There were a few animals to shoot photos with and it will be posted on this entry. There were some good deals on photo accessories and being impulse buyer, I was tempted to get a tripod but resisted the urge. Overall, it was a fine event to check out for anyone enjoys taking photography.
The other event to attend was at Art Carnival 2012 at Fall Down Gallery. It was an event done by Dream.Love.Grow (D.L.G) along with Da Industry and Kamp Operations. The event was raise cancer awareness and also the importance to keep creativity strong in the arts community.
It was styled in the form of a carnival with games, photos and live DJing. There were also art, painting and clothing on display at the event. It was great to see CKCU-FM colleagues, DJ 2 Creamz and Jewne (co-host of Fundamentally Sound) at the event. I was able to take some unique photos at the event. There are some photos from the event being posted below.
It was definitely a great Sunday to enjoy going to the events. Continue reading

The 2011 Funding Drive Show #1 and the Interviews with Louise Burns & Data Romance – S07E10

It’s been a hectic few days (hence the delay in posting up the radio show and the blog). The CKCU Funding Drive has started and there’s been some growing pains as a couple of shows are not on target compared to last year. It’s only the first week and it will be slow. The second week should start to pick up.
This week’s radio show was slightly a mess but I was able to air the interviews from Louise Burns and Data Romance. In a way, it’s a Vancouver flavour of Indie Pop and Electronic music. It was nice to do interviews as they were pretty light-hearted and funny. Unfortunately, my co-host was not able to help out for those.
I was helping out with various volunteers and hosts for their phone shifts. It’s great to meet song long time hosts again and new hosts. It’s like one big family. Thursday was by far the best because I had a blast co-host for the Thursday Special Blend with a high school co-op, then helping out for the second half of Special Blend with David Yazbeck, Whatever’s Cool With Me with Ryan and then co-host for Fundamentally Sound with loads of guests hanging out.
What also made my Thursday morning was seeing The Balconies on Yazbeck’s show. They were kind to perform 2 new songs for their upcoming album in the new year. I got the audio but I won’t upload it as it’s Yazbeck’s show and I wouldn’t do anything without his permission. Overall, a fun time on Thursday made up a bad day on Wednesday.
The playlist for the podcast and live airing of my radio show is over at this link.
The Wild 10 Countdown Summary (for October 26) is over at this link.
Before you listen to the podcast/radio show or the interviews, please donate at whatever amount on the CKCU Secure Pledge webpage. The goal for the station is $111,000 until November 6. We need listeners supporting campus community radio as hosts and volunteers bring a different flavour than commercial and private radio stations.

Summer Special 2011 – Gotta Have Cupcakes and Fundamentally Sound (July 7, 2011)

OK, I had an itch to blog something as it’s food related. Before going to CKCU-FM, I decided to go to The Cupcake Lounge to try out their cucpakes. As usual, I would buy cupcakes before going to a radio show at CKCU. Never on my show because I’m on for Wednesday mornings and the cupcake places don’t open at 10am and I’m stuck at the station. It used to be on Saturday nights but this time, it was on Thursday from 12-2pm for Fundamentally Sound. The photo displayed, top left was Key Lime, bottom left was Chocolate Dulce du Leche and then the others were Cherry (middle) and Red Velvet (right). I had Fundamentally Sound’s Dennis and Jewne and even the CKCU Sponsorship Coordinator try them out. Their verdict on the cupcakes by The Cupcake Lounge were great. For myself, I had Red Velvet, Cherry and Key Lime. When I had the Key Lime after the show finished up, I was close to having a cupcake coma due to their excellent icing. Overall, the cupcakes were excellent and it’s nice that they were freshly made. The icing weren’t overly sweet. Remind myself to get an extra bottle of water to overcome the icing.
Lastly, I’ve decided to post up the radio show from my mine and for Fundamentally Sound on here. Enjoy another Summer special entry!

August Extra: Fundamentally Sound on August 6, 2009 and Still With Summer

You can listen and download.

I was able to be a guest co-host on Fundamentally Sound with Dennis Molnar on Thursday. Fundamentally Sound is a Hip-Hop, Rap, Funk, Soul radio show that airs from 12-2pm at CKCU-FM.
Warning, there are several songs that have swearing and this blog being PG-friendly, I just want to give an advance warning. Overall, I was very comfortable being on-air because at least there someone in the on-air studio. I was calm, cool and collective and not as nervous when hosting your own radio show. Although, my loyalty still lies with Canadian indie music radio shows but my roots still lie with enjoying various forms of musical genres.

Hanging Out at Fundamentally Sound – S04E24

CKCU's TurntablesI was thinking that this would be another lame or dubious entry being written. Well, I returned from a short “hiatus” in hanging out during CKCU-FM’s funktacular show, Fundamentally Sound. I decided to take some photos during the show. As usual, there were the hijinks and humour coming from Dennis Molnar and C.J. “Showtime”.
Here’s the link to the photos, http://www.flickr.com/photos/lenny-wu/sets/72157617764311519/.
As I will explain, some of the shots were taken when C.J. “Showtime” was rapping as a Canadian politican. I won’t say who, but that will be the extent to it as I don’t want to put embarrassment to the fellow.
Sorry for the lame photo on top because I couldn’t pick a decent photo to go along for this entry.
Afterwards (well, a long one due to killing time), I went to Avant Garde Bar & Gift Shop for the Ennuie CD release party/concert. The irony to the CD release was one half of the duo will be away for five months, an odd time to release the new album and be away for several months. I couldn’t watch the whole concert as there were a lot of people standing but there was one notable cover song that the duo performed. It was Saturday Night by Whigfield. It sure brought up memories from junior high school. Oh boy!
Overall, it was an excellent show for Ennuie. Sorry, didn’t take photos for it.

The Start of the Summer Movie Blockbuster
I finally got to watch X-Men Origins: Wolverine. What did I think of it? It was ok but I am pretty disappointed at the Hollywood style to the comic characters. If I wasn’t a comic fan, then I would enjoy it but there were points that I felt nitpicky at the aspect of the film.
I was hoping to watch Star Trek on opening day but it might be uncertain when I will go watch it.
Why the “interest” for Star Trek? If you go back to my previous entry at #22. You will know why.

Last thing, I planning to do two more entries as I will follow the TV shows ending this month for the season. I will do Summer entries by using a new page and hopefully no humour coming from me. Continue reading
