On Friday night, I had the opportunity to attend CBC Canada Reads public event and hosted by All In A Day‘s Alan Neal. The 2016 edition of Canada Reads is nearing and this event had one of the finalists, Saleema Nawaz for her book, Bone and Bread. She’s originally from Ottawa and now residing in Montreal.
Nawaz’s defender, Farah Mohamed was there for the event and telling the audience why’s she defending the book and hoping it wins Canada Reads.
Aside from the conversations, there were performances from Mehdi Cayenne Club and Casey Mecija (formerly of Ohbijou and host of CBC’s The Doc Project).
Since I got interested with the 2015 edition of Canada Reads, this year’s battle of the books is fantastic and their theme is “starting over.”
As I’m trying to be less bias as one of the defenders is a former WWE wrestler & actor, Adam “Edge” Copeland. Yes! I still watching some WWE programming from time to time. Copeland is defending Minister Without Portfolio by Michael Winter. I haven’t had a chance to find the book.
Other defenders battling are Clara Hughes for The Illegal by Lawrence Hill, Bruce Poon Tip for Birdie by Tracy Lindberg and Vinay Virmani for The Hero’s Walk by Anita Rau Badami.
It was a great night to know more on Nawaz and her book as well as her defender. I totally can’t wait for Canada Reads on March 21st.
Lastly, the photos are posted below.
